Center for Northern Appalachian Studies

The mission of the IUP Center for Northern Appalachian Studies is to provide a locus for the enhanced understanding and appreciation of the richness of our region’s diverse cultural heritage. The Center will function as an open arena for the pursuit of these goals. Its work will include the creation of educational outreach programs, the development of historical archives, and the facilitation of community-based activities.

The Great Depression Hits Indiana County
Dr. Jim Dougherty, director of IUP's Center for Northern Appalachian Studies and an Assistant Professor of Sociology will present his research on how national, state and loca officials responded to the Great Depression in Indiana County during the 1930s at the Indiana Free Library on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.
