I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tell you what Indiana University of Pennsylvania can offer you. I am currently a sophomore early childhood and special education major. I value the education I am receiving at IUP and know that this education and the life experiences I am gaining are preparing me for the future.

I was nervous about leaving my family and being so far from home in a place that seemed very different from Sharon, but I have really found a home at IUP.

I have been fortunate enough to become quite involved on campus in addition to my studies. One of my favorite activities is serving as a “peer buddy” in IUP’s chapter of Best Buddies International, an organization that promotes one-on-one relationships with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Not only has this been personally rewarding, it’s been great experience for me as an education major.

I also am a member of Kappa Delta Pi Beta Gamma Chapter, an international honor society in education that promotes professional growth, achievement in educational work, and fellowship. I serve as community service chair.

Outside of my major, I am an active member of Circle K International service club (part of Kiwanis International), where I am a social chair. I am a member and treasurer of Golden Key International Honour Society , which fosters service and networking. All of these organizations have taught me to be more considerate, manage my time better, and that giving to others is a greater reward than receiving.

If I could give new students advice, it would be that joining any organization on campus will help you get more involved, meet new people and feel more at home at IUP. There are a variety of clubs to choose from that meet your interests, and if a club isn’t for you, there are many athletic activities with which you can get involved – or you can even start your own club! IUP has something to offer everyone. Doing so will benefit you in ways that will help you in every aspect of your life.

Of course, college isn’t just about clubs. You come to college to get an education, and I promise that you will be challenged at IUP, but you will get a great education. I know that my professors care about me and my education, and graduating from IUP sets me apart from others because of IUP’s excellent reputation. I know that each class I take really helps to prepare me for a career in education and I love the opportunity to be in schools even before student teaching. I can’t wait to begin my career in education!

There is nothing better than loving your classes and also enjoying your time at college while getting a great education. IUP offers you this opportunity. Come see for yourself how IUP can be a perfect fit for you!
