IUP welcomes transfer students!

We review each application individually and make the decision we believe will best serve the student.

Decisions are based primarily on academic preparation and performance. Although recommendations, activities, and the personal essay are factored in, they have greater impact for a student considered borderline in eligibility.

In addition, we consider other evidence of student performance and the ability to be a successful college student.

Course Work

To see how courses have transferred in the past from your current school to IUP, please check the Online Transfer Credit Equivalency System.

You should also request a preevaluation of your transfer credits. Very helpful!

Grade Point Average

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale from all postsecondary institutions attended is required. If you’ve attended more than one school, we’ll calculate a combined cumulative GPA.

If you apply to IUP before completing your first semester at another institution, your admission decision may be based on high school information, pending receipt of your final college transcript at the completion of the semester.

Major-Specific Requirements

Some departments require transfer students to meet major-specific admission requirements in addition to university admission requirements. See Special Requirements for Transfer Students in Specific Majors.

Language

There is no language requirement for admission. However, some departments have a language requirement for graduating from the university.
