Promising Scholars Program

  • The Admissions Office at IUP recognizes and supports the success of outstanding minority high school students in southeastern Pennsylvania and fosters diversity at IUP through its Promising Scholars Program.  

    Students can earn some of the most rewarding scholarships available through IUP: ranging from $1,000 to full in-state tuition.

    To ensure consideration for these scholarships, students must: 

    Nonacademic Criteria

    • Apply for undergraduate admission to IUP
      • Apply by October 31 for first consideration
    • U.S. citizenship
    • Permanent Pennsylvania residence
    • Completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

    Academic Criteria

    • Strength of high school curriculum, cumulative GPA, and SAT/ACT scores
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities
    • Active participation in extracurricular activities 
    • Essay or recommendation letter (optional)

    Review Process

    High school students who meet these criteria and apply to IUP will be automatically considered for Promising Scholars awards. Students will be invited by the Admissions Office to an interview event in Philadelphia on November 25, 2015.

    Students who meet these criteria and apply by October 31, 2015, for fall 2016 admission will get first consideration for Promising Scholars awards.
