Summer Scholars Academy 2015

  • Take advantage of a $3,200, four-year Summer Scholars Academy Scholarship.

    July 6–August 6, 2015

  • What is the Summer Scholars Academy?

The Summer Scholars Academy is limited to a select group of students each year. This academic enrichment program offers intensive academic coursework, highly individualized academic mentoring, the personal attention of faculty in a nurturing learning environment, and scholarship discounts.

Summer Scholars have the opportunity to earn up to six (6) credits of Liberal Studies coursework prior to their freshman year. Credit-bearing courses will be offered in four different interest areas: Global Multicultural Awareness, Health and Wellness, History, and Math. Scholars will also take a one-credit Emerging Leaders Seminar designed to enhance student’s leadership skills and draw connections between leadership, civic engagement, and what it means to be an engaged citizen. All courses are credit-bearing and become part of the student’s academic transcript. All credits count toward the completion of a degree.

Summer Scholars Academy opportunities with scholarship discounts are available for three additional years of summer study. Students participating in the Academy during their sophomore year will complete Composition II and a course of their choice for a total of 6 credits. Prior to the junior and senior years, scholars will complete 6 credits of summer coursework appropriate to their major. Students are encouraged to consider study-abroad experiences and/or internships during these Summer Academy sessions.

“Through the SSA, I learned how to work with difficult groups, how to motivate others, how to get involved on campus, how to be open to new people and ideas, and understanding my own personal strengths and weaknesses.”
