Darla Owens, a 2014 graduate of the IUP Communications Media program, knew when she came to IUP that she wanted to change the world and she wanted to do it through media.
Darla focused on television and video production during her time at IUP, but it was during her first internship in Los Angeles that she realized she wanted to do more than simply create the message - she wanted to be a part of getting it out to the community.
Working in public relations felt like a better fit, and thanks to the wide range of experiences she received at IUP, she easily transitioned from the production world to the public relations world.
After completing her internship with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Darla landed positions with the Washington Nationals (baseball) and Utica Comets (hockey). She's now the Foundation Manager for the Columbus Blue Jackets, of the National Hockey League.
