Music: Classic Albums Live - Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon

Kovalchick Complex: Torretti Auditorium

Pink Floyd’s most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide, performed note for note – cut for cut.

We've had Dark Side of the Moon in our lives for 40 years. For 40 years we've lived alongside of this album. We've all read about the incredible album sales and the omnipresent residence on the charts but what I consider more of a testament to the power of the album is that whenever it comes on the radio - we never change the channel. It's like our dear friend has once again come to visit and everything now has a tinge of surreal.   Dark Side of the Moon harkens back to a time when music mattered. The big hands of business hadn't taken a full grip. The musicians were free to experiment. There was no need of writing a hit song - or even getting a stylist. No demographics, minimal marketing, no product placement, no celebrity scents and no hype. Word of mouth ruled. We gathered and listened to the album together with friends. Or alone. Side after side - flip and repeat. These listenings were sacrosanct.   10 years ago, Classic Albums Live launched with this album - just down the road at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. I loved the clearly defined beginning - middle and end of Dark Side. It defined us in our continuing quest for note for note perfection. We know how to properly play this record. It's in our DNA. There's calm and reason countered with madness and chaos. 10 years later to be able to step onto the Massey Hall stage and let this album breathe is not only joyous, it's historic.   I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our faithful fans for their continued support. 10 years is a long time. It feels like family when the shows unfold. It's been an honour and a privilege.  Long we live and high we fly.
