Gary Dean, chairperson of the Department of Adult and Community Education, was inducted into International Adult and Community Education Hall of Fame on October 15, 2012, at the induction ceremony in Reno, Nev.

Jennifer Nelsen received the Margaret Mahler Outstanding Student in Adult and Community Education Award for 2012. This award is given annually to the student in adult and community education who best exemplifies the spirit of lifelong learning.

Louis was presented the award for her work with community women's organizations in St. Lucia. The award recognizes the contributions made by students and/or community members to initiatives for social justice, community empowerment, and community or popular education.
