The Clarks describe themselves with pride as a band that’s always fashionably in style and fashionably out of style all at the same time. They’ve never struck arena-rock poses, and never had any gimmicks or affectations at all. They just get onstage and get it done, and they’ve never found a reason to do it any other way. The casual college band turned into a career dream come true, complete with airtime on Late Show with David Letterman and more than a quarter-million albums sold, all while remaining in the hometown of their families, friends, and biggest fans. The local hometown sentiment still stands, but, as the title of their new album suggests, the band is getting a bit “restless.”

While attending Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Donnie Iris formed a band called the Trivells. Two fellow musicians joined Iris, along with an additional fourth man, to create Donnie Iris and the Donnelles. The band played for fraternity parties. Around 1965, Donnie and the Donnelles merged with members of another band called Gary and the Jewel Tones to create the Jaggerz. Iris wrote the number two Billboard hit “The Rapper” while with the Jaggerz, and he was a member of Wild Cherry after the group’s number one hit “Play That Funky Music.” Iris is an American rock musician known for his work with the Jaggerz and Wild Cherry during the 1970s and for his solo albums during the 1980s.

Global Spectrum manages Kovalchick Complex at IUP as well as more than 100 other public assembly facilities around the world. Nearly 20 million people attended more than 11,000 events in Global Spectrum venues last year.

“Mad Dubstep” will offer concert seekers and comedian lovers alike the chance to see both in one night. The electronic comedic mix will feature Aries Spears, Liquid Stranger, Arion, and Khadafi Dub at Kovalchick Complex on April 28, 2012. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 6, at 10:00 a.m.

Tickets to Mad Dubstep featuring Aries Spears, Liquid Stranger, Arion, and Khadafi Dub are priced at $20 for I-Card holders at the Kovalchick Complex Box Office only; $27 for students and $29 for the general public. Prices listed include a $2 facility fee. All tickets can be purchased directly at the Kovalchick Complex Box Office, on the Kovalchick Complex website, or by calling 800-298-4200. Join the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Facebook page and Cyber Club e-mail blast to receive advance notice and special offers to future events at the facility.

With eight years as a principle player on the popular sketch show Mad TV, producers made full use of many of Aries Spears’ talents by calling on him frequently to write sketches and create new hilarious characters. Spears also boasted a number of uproarious impersonations on the show that include James Brown, Al Pacino, and his childhood idol Eddie Murphy. The Aries-branded sketch “Talkin’ American” was Mad TV’s most popular bit the minute it hit the airwaves, keeping fans tuned in and boosting the show’s Saturday night ratings impressively. Most recently, Spears starred alongside iconoclastic Damon Wayans in Showtime’s The Underground, a half-hour sketch comedy series that is best described as In Living Color on steroids. His comedy album, I Ain’t Scared, has received numerous accolades and includes stand-up combined with prank calls (way beyond and hipper than the Jerky Boys!).

Arion is well known for his YouTube creations that were back-to-back viral releases from 2010–2011. His most popular Dubstep remix is LMFAO’s “Party Rock.”

Traveling in the uncharted terrains of music, Liquid Stranger’s creative output ranges from suggestive ambient soundscapes to movie scores, pop, dub, infernalia, drill n’ bass, and electronica. Always pushing the sonic boundaries and merging genres, Liquid Stranger consistently creates a soulful blend of unique atmospheres and grooves.

Khadafi Dub has quickly carved his niche on the EDM scene as an all-around performer. After achieving success in hip-hop as Konfidential, Khadafi changed his musical direction and hit the electronic music scene hard, winning the Best Dubstep MC/Host Award in 2011. Being at the forefront of merging Hip Hop with Dubstep and Electro House, Khadafi's stage performance is one of the best live acts on the scene.

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley will bring his Country & Cold Cans Tour back to the U.S. this spring, playing 20 cities to be later announced. Of the 20 cities, Dierks Bentley will return to Indiana, Pa, on May 5, 2012, at Kovalchick Complex.

Tickets to Dierks Bentley, with special guests Eli Young Band and Will Hoge, are priced at $25 and $35 and go on sale March 23 at 10:00 a.m. Ticket prices include a $2 facility fee and may be purchased online through the Kovalchick Complex website, by dialing 800-298-4200, or at the Kovalchick Complex Box Office.

“Country & Cold Cans was such a great tour last fall . . . . It’s just way too much fun to stop, and we knew we had to continue it into the spring and make another run across the U.S. when we get home from Canada and Australia. We’re even going to Alaska . . . giving new meaning to cold cans,” laughed Bentley. “I’m excited that EYB is coming out with us again . . . great dudes, and they put on a killer show. I’m also a big fan of both the Cadillac Black and Will Hoge, so I’m looking forward to watching their sets every night.”

Bentley recently geared up for the release of his sixth studio album, Home, on February 7. The new album’s anthemic second single and title track received an Academy of Country Music nomination for Song Of The Year and is pushing its way up the Top 10 of the radio charts. Billboard noted that the song is “Maybe his strongest lyrical statement to date, the single reminds us of a late 70s Haggard track —the ultimate compliment. The past few years have seen some of the best work of his career, and this is another example.” The lead single “Am I The Only One” already peaked in the number one spot and has been certified gold. Bentley’s earlier albums have earned him nine number one hits, over 5 million total album sales, and 10 Grammy nominations.

Eli Young Band’s “Crazy Girl” has been certified platinum, with sales of over 1.4 million downloads, and was named Billboard magazine’s Number One Country Song of the Year. The band has performed the hit on Late Show With David Letterman, Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and at the American Country Awards. Their album Life at Best made its debut at number three on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart and number six on the Billboard 200. It came in at number one on the iTunes Country Albums Chart and number two on the iTunes All Genre Chart.

Critically acclaimed Nashville singer/songwriter Will Hoge’s seventh studio album, aptly titled Number Seven, explores the struggles of the heart that are Hoge’s songwriting stock in trade, while revealing enticing range and freshness on the sonic front. The Philadelphia Inquirer noted its “raw, impassioned power,” while the Chicago Sun-Times called it “a rich, textured album.” For the past 10 years, Hoge has maintained a rigorous touring schedule, building his fan base by playing hundreds of shows a year. Hoge recently made his late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The Ringling Bros. Ringlettes will be your stylish hosts, and the fun begins with a rockin’ preshow party on the arena floor. Partygoers can learn fresh dance moves from Ringling Bros. clown DJ Dean, style in glitzy costumes, learn balancing and juggling skills, take photos with circus stars, and even step behind the curtain for an exclusive backstage experience, including an up-close look at the exotic animal menagerie.

The Barnum Bash has assembled the most amazing international acts, including Dimitri the Strong Man, Motorcycle Mania, Epic Asian Elephants, Wheel of Steel, and Hand Balancers. All are tricked out for the circus party and ready to perform wild feats of wonder and strength to contemporary pop music and in 21st-century Barnum style. Everyone is invited to the party, except Anton, a goofy clown, who just wants to be part of the fun. Can Anton persuade us there's not just one way to party?!

Eric Church will perform live with special guest Brantley Gilbert on March 3, 2012, at Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Eric Church brings his newly announced “Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour” to over fifty cities in 2012.

Ticket prices range from $34.75 and $42.50 for reserved seats to $199 for the aptly titled “Put a Drink in YOUR Hand” VIP package. The package will be limited to no more than 200 fans per show and will include premiere seating, a pre-show party with food and drinks, a two-song acoustic performance by Church, and autographed memorabilia, including a limited edition signed show poster, the Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour t-shirt, and an exclusive tour laminate. Tickets go on sale December 2 at 10:00 a.m. and will be made available through ComcastTIX.com, 800-298-4200, or by visiting the Kovalchick Complex Box Office.

With word of mouth long fueling Church’s sweat-soaked, sold-out crowds, Church surprised Music Row naysayers earlier this year when his third release, Chief, topped the Billboard charts with over 145,000 albums sold in its first week, a true testament to hard work by Church and his band on the road. Chief has since been certified Gold and produced the Top 15 “Homeboy” as well as the current Top 15 and climbing single “Drink In My Hand,” on which Church’s live show serves as the backdrop for the music video counterpart.

“We have been building our entire career for this tour. It is truly the culmination of a lot of blood, sweat, and beer that has brought us to this point in our career,” says Church.

“I have always trusted our fans to deliver with their dedication and passion; they have always exceeded my expectations. I have never been more excited to begin a tour than this one. The band and I are committed to emptying the tank every night and delivering the best show we can.”

No other up-and-coming artist is quite as suitable for the raucous Church crowd as Big Machine Label Group’s Brantley Gilbert. Gilbert, who has experienced recent radio success with his current number one hit “Country Must Be Country Wide,” has been building his fan base on the outskirts of “polished” country for years in the southeast. Similar to Church, Gilbert brings grit and attitude to the stage—and he should fit in just fine with the theme of the Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour.

At the young age of twenty-six, Brantley Gilbert already has a list of impressive industry accolades. The rising star made his debut at number two on the Billboard Country Albums chart upon releasing Halfway to Heaven in September and, along with the original, has already sold over 300,000 albums to date. His first single on the Valory Music Co., “Country Must Be Country Wide,” recently scored the number one spot on country radio. Just last month, he received his first nomination at the CMA Awards for Song of the Year.

Global Spectrum manages Kovalchick Complex at IUP as well as more than one hundred other public assembly facilities around the world. Nearly 20 million people attended more than 11,000 events in Global Spectrum venues last year. Based in Philadelphia, Pa., Global Spectrum is part of Comcast-Spectacor, one of the world’s largest sports and entertainment companies.

Chip’s accomplishments have been extraordinary. His latest achievement is creating a cutting-edge psychoacoustic technology that is being used in major medical institutions such as Mayo Clinic and is also being studied by NASA for potential use in space.

Pittsburgh’s own Wiz Khalifa, “Prince of the City,” and special guest Wale, will perform live at Kovalchick Complex on September 29, 2011, at 9:00 p.m. The show is presented by The Entertainment Network and the Black Emphasis Committee.

With over 3,000,000 friends on Facebook, 1,000,000 followers on Twitter, and a sellout performance at Kovalchick Complex, it’s clear that Wiz Khalifa has established himself as one of the rap game’s brightest young stars.

“The early sellout of the Wiz Khalifa concert comes as a welcome and much appreciated result of the combined groundswell of campus, community, and regional support for Kovalchick Complex and interest in this great local entertainer,” said Sam Phillips, IUP’s interim assistant vice president for Administration.

“Kudos to the student-based TEN, BEC, and Global Spectrum for their brilliant booking, promotional execution, and sellout of this show. What a great start to the Fall semester for the Kovalchick Complex.”

Tickets to Wiz Khalifa and Wale were priced at $20 with an I-Card, $27 for non IUP students, and $32 for the general public. The HUB opened the box office on Monday, August 29, with only 1,200 student tickets remaining. Within hours, the show was completely sold out of I-Card tickets. The Kovalchick Complex box office sold the remaining general admission allotment on Tuesday afternoon, capping out the complex with 4,558 tickets.

“Wiz Khalifa is the perfect kick-off to Homecoming Weekend,” said Zach Clark, director of Student Activities and Assessment. “This is an amazing artist, and the community response has been outstanding. TEN and BEC are no strangers to selling out major events on campus, but this is exceptionally special because it's the first concert sell-out in a beautiful new arena, where the majority of tickets sold were to IUP students.”

The group will perform live for one performance only at Kovalchick Complex on November 17, 2011, at 8:00 p.m.

Mannheim Steamroller is an American music group founded by Chip Davis, known primarily for its modern recordings of Christmas music. Grammy Award winner and mastermind behind the group Chip Davis directs and coproduces the tour. The show will feature the favorite Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with state-of-the-art multimedia effects in an intimate setting.

Beginning in 1984, Mannheim Steamroller found its greatest fame when Davis released his first holiday album, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, featuring modern contemporary interpretations of Yuletide favorites. Mannheim Steamroller is the number-one-selling Christmas music group of all time and one of the top fifty best-selling acts of the last two decades, outselling prominent artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Sting, REM, Barbara Streisand, and Bon Jovi.

Musically, as the 1990s progressed, Davis moved into the mainstream of New Age music with a heavier reliance on synthesized instruments. His music became closer to the “light jazz” style that gained prominence in the 1990s.

He’s taken the country music world by storm. Darius Rucker will be live in concert on Friday, October 7, 2011, with special guests Rodney Atkins and Frankie Ballard at Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pa.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m.

Former front man for blues band Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker is no stranger to the spotlight. Rucker’s success in the country music format was recently recognized at the forty-third annual CMA Awards when he received the Top New Artist title, and again with ACM, Teen Choice, and AMA Award nominations. Charleston, SC 1966—a title which pays tribute to one of Rucker's biggest influences, Radney Foster—includes the multiple-week number-one hit single “Come Back Song” and his current Top 10 single, “This.”

Tickets to Darius Rucker with special guests Rodney Atkins and Frankie Ballard are priced at $25 (students), $35, $40, and $45. They go on sale August 20 at 10:00 a.m. Ticket prices include a $2 facility fee and may be purchased online, by calling ComcastTix at 800-298-4200, or at the Kovalchick Complex box office.

Co-headliner Rodney Atkins has had wonderful response from his second album, If You’re Going Through Hell, which was released in 2006. Its first two singles, “If You’re Going Through Hell” and “Watching You,” each spent four weeks at the top of the country music charts. Both songs were also named as the number one country song of the year by Billboard magazine.

The album, which has since been certified platinum in the United States, has produced two more number one singles in “These Are My People” and “Cleaning This Gone,” as well as “Invisibly Shaken,” which peaked at number forty-one. A twelfth single, “It’s America,” was released in November 2008 as the first release from his third album, It’s America, and the song became his fifth number one charting single and was performed on numerous awards shows and national TV shows. In the summer of 2010, Atkins released “Farmer’s Daughter,” his seventh top five country hit.

New personality Frankie Ballard showcases a bluesy, rocking edge to the country scene. His talents as a vocalist, songwriter, instrumentalist, and showman have already made him one of the genre’s most memorable new artists. His first single, “Tell Me You Get Lonely,” became a top-five video chart success.

The James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga., received a platinum ball, while the Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke, Va., received a gold ball. The Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pa., Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J.; and the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D., all received red, white, and blue balls.

“Global Spectrum prides itself in exceeding our clients’ expectations,” said Global Spectrum Chief Operating Officer John Page. “This type of accolade by the Globetrotters is a reflection of the hard-working, dedicated marketers we have at all of our venues who collectively work together as a single marketing department to the benefit of all of our venues nationwide.”

The Harlem Globetrotters featured their own version of the “Money Ball” throughout the tour, with the addition of an exciting new innovation, the first four-point shot in basketball history. Every Globetrotters game featured four designated four-point circles (two on each side of the midcourt), each located thirty-five feet from the basket (twelve feet beyond the NBA’s three-point arc).

The trio of Thirty Seconds to Mars (lead singer and guitarist Jared Leto, drummer Shannon Leto, and guitarist Tomo Milicevic) are known as world-class, arena-crushing rock icons.

Tickets to experience Thirty Seconds to Mars live in concert are $12 with student ID, and $17 for the general public. Tickets are on sale now at the HUB box office on IUP’s campus, the Kovalchick Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX, or by phone at 800-298-4200.

In addition to Leto’s searing, no-holds-barred vocals, propulsive and melodious bass, guitar, and keyboards; Shannon’s huge and inventive percussion; and Tomo’s searing six-string, their album This Is War buzzes with dozens of imaginative effects and indomitable layers of vintage synths.

Authentic Tibetan monks chant to begin the album on “Escape” and close the album on “L490,” the voice of a French girl narrates “Night of the Hunter,” and the cry of a wild hawk screams to introduce the first single, “Kings and Queens,” which the band wrote in the same house in South Africa where they recorded their smash modern rock single “The Kill.”

Thirty Seconds to Mars live in concert is sponsored by The Entertainment Network (TEN), a student-run activities programming organization that provides affordable, student-centered entertainers of the best possible quality to IUP’s campus community.

Rosehill Drive has been added to open for the Stone Temple Pilots concert on April 22, 2011, at the Kovalchick Complex.

Rose Hill Drive was established in Boulder, Colo., by brothers Jacob Sproul (bass guitar and vocals) Daniel Sproul (guitar, backup vocals) and high school friend Nathan Barnes (drums). The band has performed with acts such as Aerosmith, Black Crows, and Van Halen, and is now set to play Indiana, Pa., in April 2011.

In the April 2007 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, Rose Hill Drive was named one of the “10 New Artists to Watch.” In February 2011, Rose Hill Drive went into the studio and recorded a new album and announced their new U.S. tour supporting the Stone Temple Pilots through April and May.

Tickets, at $47.50 and $37.50 for the general public, and $23 for students with valid ID at the box office, are on sale now. For tickets, go to the Kovalchick Complex website, or visit the Kovalchick Complex Box Office every Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices do not include a $2 facility fee. Join the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Facebook page, and receive advance notice and special offers to future events at the facility.

Since the moment they appeared on the scene in the early 90s, Stone Temple Pilots dominated the decade from start to finish, racking up fifteen singles on the Billboard Top Ten, winning a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy in 1994 for “Plush,” and having their five albums sell more than 35 million copies worldwide.

At first, the ironic swagger of “Sex Type Thing” brought them onto MTV and radio, but it was “Plush” that blew the doors wide open for the band, establishing them as multi-platinum act in 1993. A pair of subsequent singles were released from Core: “Wicked Garden” and the spooky, acoustic “Creep,” before they delivered Purple in 1994.

A large, eager fan base snatched up Purple on its opening week, sending it to numner one—but Purple wasn’t a one-week wonder. It grew as the record spun off hit after hit: first there was the majestic, cryptic “Big Empty,” taken from The Crow soundtrack. Then there was “Vasoline,” which was followed by the modern rock classic “Interstate Love Song,” a radio smash that stayed on the top of Billboard’s Album Rock charts for fifteen weeks, besting the record set by the Rolling Stones’ “Start Me Up.”

Tickets for Stone Temple Pilots go on sale Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.

A dominant force in rock music since their inception, the group’s impressively extensive and top-selling music has cemented their standing as one of the most successful rock groups of all time. Stone Temple Pilots will play the Kovalchick Complex on April 22, 2011, at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets, at $47.50 and $37.50 for the general public and $23 for students with valid ID at the box office, go on sale Saturday, February 19, at 10:00 a.m. For tickets, go to the Kovalchick Complex website, or visit the Kovalchick Complex temporary Box Office at the Memorial Field House on the IUP campus, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Monday through Friday. Ticket prices do not include a $2 facility fee. Join the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Facebook page and receive advance notice and special offers to future events at the facility.

Since the moment they appeared on the scene in the early 90’s, Stone Temple Pilots dominated the decade from start to finish, racking up fifteen singles on the Billboard Top Ten, winning a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy in 1994 for Plush, and having their five albums sell more than 35 million copies worldwide.

At first, the ironic swagger of Sex Type Thing brought them onto MTV and radio, but it was Plush that blew the doors wide open for the band, establishing them as multiplatinum act in 1993. A pair of subsequent singles were released from Core—“Wicked Garden” and the spooky, acoustic “Creep”—before they delivered Purple in 1994.

A large, eager fan base snatched Purple up upon its opening week, sending it to number one. But Purple wasn’t a one-week wonder—it grew as the record spun off hit after hit: first there was the majestic, cryptic “Big Empty,” taken from the Crow soundtrack; then there was “Vasoline,” which was followed by the modern rock classic “Interstate Love Song,” a radio smash that stayed on the top of Billboard’s Album Rock charts for fifteen weeks, besting the record set by the Rolling Stones’ “Start Me Up.”

Steve Miller started the progression of open-highway rock in the late 1960s, making his way to chart toppers like “Take the Money and Run,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner,” “Jungle Love,” “Swingtown,” and the “Joker.”

Book of Dreams was released in 1977, and it followed the equally successful Fly Like an Eagle, which was released the previous year. These two multiplatinum-selling albums launched the Steve Miller Band to superstardom in the mid-seventies.

Let Your Hair Down followed the number one blues album Bingo! as the second new Steve Miller Band album of the twenty-first century.

As a founding member of the one and only Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Gregg Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues, his soulful and distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. Low Country Blues marks the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s seventh solo recording and first in more than thirteen years.

An IUP-community group that has spent two years talking about the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex took its first tour of the facility Monday.

The KCAC Committee Cochairs, made up of IUP officials and community leaders, got an inside look at the building’s progress January 25, 2010.

Scheduled to open in June 2011, the KCAC is currently slightly ahead of schedule, according to Mark Geletka, interim associate vice president for Facilities Management.

The cochairs committee meets on a monthly basis to provide overall guidance for the project. Topics discussed range from land-acquisition to general-operations issues.

The KCAC is a $53.49-million, 150,000-square-foot facility being built along Wayne Avenue, adjacent to the university. It will include a 5,000-seat arena, auditorium, conference center, and more.

The facility is named for the Kovalchick family of Indiana, which made a $2-million donation toward the project.

Construction on the facility officially began February 16, 2009.

Mascaro Construction Company, LP, of Pittsburgh, is the project’s general contractor; Farfield Company of Lititz will provide the mechanical and electrical construction; and S.P. McCarl, Inc. of Altoona will install the plumbing. L. Robert Kimball of Ebensburg is the professional architect.

Each contractor was selected in December after a competitive bid process. The project is being administered by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. James P. Creedon is the secretary of General Services.

Pennsylvania Department of General Services Secretary James P. Creedon and Indiana University of Pennsylvania President Tony Atwater recently announced that bid proposals have been awarded for the construction of the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Bids for the project initially came in at $56.9 million. The new base bids are at $53.49 million.

“We are delighted to announce that this project will move forward, thanks to a concerted effort by all parties to work together to find ways to make this important project a reality,” Creedon said.

Creedon said that as a result of extensive negotiations with IUP, contractors, and the design professional, the project went through a value-engineering process that enabled the project cost to be decreased by almost $4 million.

“Through an informed and collaborative process, IUP and DGS have been successful in reaching an agreement that maintains the scope and quality of the project, and at a project cost compatible with the university’s fundraising objectives,” Atwater said. “We have had a stated fundraising goal of $20 million. We knew that we would have to increase this goal, and given today’s announcement, we are officially increasing our goal to $38 million." » See more.
