Construction will soon start on a new plaza and front entrance for Stapleton Library.
The project will replace the aging brick retaining walls and dated concrete stairs with a bold new look utilizing granite as the main feature for the walls and stairs. The artist’s rendition gives a dramatic preview of the finished project.
Work on the project will include new front door assemblies, a new spacious patio with lighting and furniture, new granite stairs and front wall, and new landscaping.
The project will also replace both sidewalks between Stapleton and Fisher Auditorium and will have a winter ice-melt system installed for the plaza area and the stairs.
As with all construction projects, there will be some temporary inconvenience. During construction, the main entrance to the library will be relocated to the doors at the corner of the library closest to the lawn area between Sutton and Clark halls. Also, the two sidewalks between Stapleton and Fisher will be closed.
The project is expected to take approximately seven months to complete. The Engineering and Construction project page will have periodic updates on construction progress. The Office of Engineering and Construction requests everyone’s patience during construction and is confident that the end product will be worth the temporary inconvenience.
