Dries 2013-03-11T14:54:00Z The Liberal Studies Office is sponsoring the annual Writing Workshop on May 20, 21, and 22, 2013 (two and a half days). The workshop will be held in the Monongahela Room in the HUB on Monday and Tuesday and in Stabley 101 on Wednesday morning. (Attendance at a writing workshop is one of the requirements for a Type I Writing Professor designation).

Teaching assistants are welcome to attend!

Participants will enjoy a continental breakfast each morning and delicious lunches on Monday and Tuesday, as Wednesday will be a half day in the morning. Breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday’s session will be a half-day program in the morning.

Dries 2012-10-03T14:54:00Z The Liberal Studies Office will have 14 one-hour workshops in October 2012 relating to the new curriculum implementation. These sessions will provide help for individuals and departments with course revisions for the Liberal Studies Electives and Global and Multicultural Awareness categories.

Any other information you might want to discuss, from advising information to general (or specific) information about the change to the new curriculum, is welcome. These informal sessions will address your individual concerns. There is no formal presentation, so please come prepared with your questions.

The discussions will be based on the Report of the General Education Task Force from 1987 that established the Liberal Studies Committee.

The committee is composed of the Senate chair, APSCUF president, Liberal Studies director, cochair of the University-Wide Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and two members of the Senate rules committee.

In the past year, there were twenty-five sections of synthesis courses offered in Fall 2010, fifteen in Winter 2010, twenty-three in Summer 2010, and twenty-six in Spring 2011.

Because synthesis courses are becoming more difficult to schedule and register for, preference will have to be given to those students who are in their last semester of their senior year.

As we work toward the approval of the First Year Seminar for the revised Liberal Studies curriculum, we are providing faculty the opportunity to begin working on their course ideas. Following approval, these LBST 281 courses could be offered on an experimental basis as early as Spring 2011.
