Throughout the Spring 2013 semester, IUP is offering members of the university community brief trainings on Title IX regulations, polices, and procedures. Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex. Sexual harassment of students, which includes acts of sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by this federal law.

Trainers from each division and/or college are meeting with their departmental colleagues, providing an overview of the elements of the university’s policy and federal regulations related to Title IX. In addition, the training provides an overview of resources to which employees may turn when working with students with concerns or having difficulty adjusting to college life.

Members of the university community are encouraged to participate in the training, and can learn more about Title IX and supporting students with concerns through the following IUP webpages: Title IX and Sexual Harassment and Concern and Response Team.

There are many people at the university and within the Indiana community who are committed to assisting students during particularly stressful times. As the Spring 2013 semester begins, students may be returning to campus with worries about their continued success at IUP. Students may have financial concerns, family stressors, or be worried about their health. Information to assist faculty and staff in recognizing and responding to students can be found at Where To Turn for Help (pdf).

This Spring semester, Dan Burkett has taken on an additional role in working with Rhonda Luckey as a dean’s associate for the Concern and Response Team (CART). For more information about CART, or to seek assistance for a student exhibiting concerning behaviors, contact any of the members of CART. A list of the members of the Concern and Response Team can be found at CART Membership.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6. Here's what you need to know about voting if you're a student living on or off campus.

Where to Vote

Students Who Live on Campus:

Find your polling place on your voter registration card. Or you can check PA Voter Services.
Students living on campus will be assigned to vote at Zink Hall, Pratt Hall, or Mack Park. You can vote only at your assigned polling place.

Students Who Live off Campus:

Find your polling place on your voter registration card or at PA Voter Services. Remember, you can vote only at your assigned polling place.

When to Vote

Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
If you're standing in line at a polling location at 8:00 pm, you have the right to vote.

What to Bring

A photo ID is not required in this election. But if you're voting for the first time in a precinct, you do need to show ID. Some acceptable forms include:

I-Card with or without an expiration date sticker

Your voter registration card

Current utility bill showing name and address

Pennsylvania driver's license.

See a complete list at PA Voter Services.

Am I Registered?

If you registered to vote on campus, you should have received a voter registration card at your mailing address. If you haven't received your card, check to make sure you're registered to vote at PA Voter Services.

If you're listed as registered, just go and vote. If you're not listed as registered but you did complete a voter registration form, call your county board of elections. Find phone numbers at PA Voter Services. The Indiana county number is (724) 465-3852.

Note: If you're told at the polling place that you're ineligible to vote, you have the right to request a provisional ballot.

IUP publishes annually those policies which are directed to preserve the health and safety of individuals and our university community.

1. Title IX – Sexual Misconduct

IUP is committed to a work environment free from any form of sexual harassment or sexual violence. The IUP Sexual Harassment Policy prohibits sexual harassment and sexual violence and provides reporting procedures.
Questions about IUP’s efforts to prevent sexual misconduct and address reports of sexual violence can be directed to Rhonda Luckey, vice president for Student Affairs and IUP’s Title IX coordinator, at 724-357-2220, or Rhonda.Luckey@iup.edu.

2. Missing Residential Student

The objective of IUP Missing Residential Student Policy is to clearly define the reporting protocol when a residential student is presumed missing.
3. Involuntary Withdrawal Policy

The purpose of the IUP Involuntary Withdrawal Policy is to provide a procedure for determining whether an identified student’s behavior poses a direct threat and for responding to such behavior. Rarely does student behavior pose a direct threat. However, involuntary withdrawal may be appropriate when:

the student displays behavior which is not prohibited by and/or could not be adjudicated by the Student Behavior Regulations or the Academic Integrity Policy, but that nonetheless poses a direct threat; and

the student demonstrates a risk of repeated display of such behavior.

Questions about the Involuntary Withdrawal Policy can be addressed to Dr. Rhonda Luckey, vice president for Student Affairs, at 724-357-2220 or Rhonda.Luckey@iup.edu.

The data will identify the degree to which existing on-campus housing facilities meet the current needs of undergraduate, graduate, and nontraditional IUP students. The master plan will provide recommendations for addressing current and future needs.

The first phase of the study, launched in Spring 2012, entails the collection and analysis of information from multiple data sources in order to provide a comprehensive housing market analysis. Data will be collected and analyzed pertaining to IUP enrollment projections and current on-campus and off-campus housing facilities and their existing capacities, as well as perceptions of students and other stakeholders of how well current housing facilities are aligned with present and projected demand.

Perkins Eastman has contracted with Ira Fink and Associates, Berkley, Calif., to independently design and administer a student housing and demographic survey which will be distributed to all undergraduate and graduate students on the Indiana campus beginning on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Fink and Associates also will be visiting IUP later in April to facilitate a series of focus group interviews with members of the university community (students, faculty, and staff).

Additional information pertaining to the housing market study can be obtained by contacting Student Affairs lead facilitator Michael Lemasters, executive director of Housing, Residential Living, and Dining and associate dean of Campus Living and Learning, at Michael.Lemasters@iup.edu.

Clearly stated purpose;

Link to the departmental or division Mission and Vision;

Potential to improve the quality of student experience and positively impact students;

Project’s methodology; and,

This is an excellent opportunity to add to your resume or professional portfolio, plus be recognized among Student Affairs peers for outstanding effort and accomplishment.
