The Haven Project will be hosting the annual Take Back the Night march at IUP. These marches began in 1976 in Brussels, Belgium, and have become a prominent rallying event against sexual assault and violence internationally.

Our march will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Delaney Courtyard. Participants should arrive by 7:45 p.m. A Speak Out event will immediately follow in the PNC Room of the KCAC.

Project Unbreakable comes to IUP on Thursday, September 13.

Project Unbreakable Photo 4The project was created in October 2011 by Grace Brown. Brown works with survivors of sexual assault, photographing Project Unbreakable Photo 2them holding a poster with a quote from their attacker. She has photographed over 200 people and has received over a thousand submissions.

Ten Project Unbreakable photographs will be on display at Stapleton Library from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Students will have an opportunity to have their photograph taken by Grace at 7:00 p.m. in the HUB Ohio Room.

]]> Ms. Deborah A. Klenotic 2012-09-04T14:54:00Z Grace Brown, age 20, created Project Unbreakable in October 2011. Grace works with survivors of sexual abuse who volunteer to be photographed for Project Unbreakable by holding a poster with a quote from their attacker.

Originally, Grace created the project to show the numbers and how common sexual assault was, but didn't realize until a few weeks into the project the healing power behind taking the words back. Her work has been featured by sources such as TIME magazine, the Guardian, Jezebel, the Washington Post, and more. She was recently honored by Mariska Hargitay's (Law and Order: SVU) organization, the Joyful Heart Foundation.

Grace will discuss how the project came to be, the power of having a voice, and also explain stories behind some of the images. For more information, contact Malinda Levis at malinda@iup.edu.

Participants will march on campus and will end at the HUB’s Ohio Room, where everyone is invited to attend the Speak Out.

Come support sexual assault victims and survivors.
