The Common Freshman Reader (CFR) Selection Committee has begun work on the selection of the book that will be used as the Common Freshman Reader for the 2009–2010 Academic Year. Your input is critical to our committee’s work. In the near future faculty will be receiving an e-mail requesting recommendations for books they would like the committee to consider. Some of the criteria that we have developed for use in the selection process include:

Readability and the potential to spark passionate discussion among students

Relevance to first-year students

Interdisciplinary appeal and appeal to a wide range of students

Likelihood that students will not have read the book in high school

Possibilities for additional programming

Length (preference will be given for books that are 300 pages or less)

Affordability

The solicitation for faculty recommendations will be sent out via e-mail in the near future and will occur using the Student Voice technology with support from the Applied Research Lab. We look forward to receiving your recommendations!
