4:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. | Caffe Amadeus, Indiana, Pa. Kick back and enjoy a nice, hot coffee while raising money for the Momma Mary Foundation, a charity devoted to support those with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
An event open to everyone entitled A Candle Night for Momma will be hosted from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 5 at Caffe Amadeus on Philadelphia Street. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Momma Mary Foundation. Owners of Caffe Amadeus, Bill and Andi Szep, have organized this event to show support for Mary Valastro Pinto, or “Momma”, who was diagnosed with ALS less than a year ago.
Momma is known for her appearances on TLC’s “Cake Boss”. Featured on the show, she and her five children run Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J. Carlo’s Bakery was founded in 1910 by Carlo Guastaffero and later acquired by Bartolo Valastro Sr. in 1964. Since then, the bakery has prospered and become well-known.
Being owners of a café and fans of “Cake Boss”, the Szep family feels emotionally connected to the Valastro family. The Szep family has conducted two charity events at Caffe Amadeus in the past, and when they heard of Momma’s condition, they began to plan how to show their support.
For donations of $1, participants will receive a doily on which they will decorate and sign their name. The goal is to fill the shop’s windows with doilies before they are mailed in a package to Momma.
A Candle Night for Momma will feature a variety of live entertainment supplied by the community. It will also be filmed for the Valastros by IUP student Adam Clapp. |
