Free Admission. A guest of the IUP Department of Music, Dr. Anna Stephan-Robinson will speak about her latest scholarly music theory project, "Peggy Sue Got Reworked: Nostalgia in Paul Simon's Old." Dr. Stephan-Robinson completed her Ph.D. in Music Theory from Eastman School of Music and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Music and Theater at West Liberty University. Her current work expands on her dissertation on the music of Paul Simon. She also serves as president of the Society of Music Theory's Popular Music Interst Group.

Event Info About: IUP Women's Basketball The Crimson Hawks are looking to return to the PSAC tournament for the fifth straight year under Head Coach Jeff Dow, and he returns five starters from a season ago. A Division II Bulletin Preseason All-American, Pastorek headlines the group that led IUP to the semifinals of both the PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region tournaments and finished with a 23-7 record. About: IUP Men's Basketball IUP is gunning for another run at the PSAC tournament championship after winning the title in 2010 and 2011. The Crimson Hawks have reached the postseason in each of the last five years under Head Coach Joe Lombardi, including runs in the NCAA tournament each of the last four. Last year saw IUP go 23-6 overall, including an impressive 19-3 record in the conference, advancing to the PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region semifinals. Black History Month Keynote Address: An Interactive Panel Presentation: The Art of Resistance - An Intergenerational Dialogue Between the Civil Rights and Hip-Hop Generation featuring Sonia Sanchez etal.

Black History Month 2013 is themed 2050: Rooted in the Past, Moving Forward and this program is presented as a special dedication to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It concludes a day-long list of events and features an interactive panel presentation of noted scholars, activist and performers that is designed to answer such questions as "Can today's art be an act of resustance to public policy that too often marginalizes youth, particularly those from Black and Brown communities - or is it simply a diversion in an era of individualism and consumer culture? Designed in consultation with Bakari Kitwana, journalist, activist, and political commentator on politics and youth, featured panelists include Ms. Sonia Sanchez, poet-activist; Dr. Haki Madhubuti, publisher,poet, activist; Mr. Adam Mansbach, author; Ms. Chinaka Hodge, poet/playwright (Def Poetry Jam); Popmaster Fabel Pabon, Hip-Hop Pioneer; and Dr. James Peterson, Director of Africana Studies, as moderator.
